Since 1 May 2004, when Estonia joined the European Union, market organisation within the country has been the same as elsewhere in the EU, with the aims of stabilising the agricultural products market, improving productivity and ensuring sufficient supplies of foodstuffs and a just income for producers. Among the market organisation measures applied are an intervention purchase price for dairy products and cereals, private storage of dairy products, a system of licences and export aid and a milk quota.
